Shamanic Work
Shamanic work here is referring to the concepts of drumming in the form or raising energy (both individual and within a group), as used by healers, and journeying to the Otherworlds. Each of the practices have been proven to be affective in their use in a healing setting through various cultures and specific practices.
Drumming
The drum is the heartbeat of the land, of our "Mother" the Earth and ties our physical bodies to the earthly element. Drumming can alter one's heartbeat, which will in turn alter one's breathing. The focus on breath and how it relates to our vitality is known among many cultures and is in particular use among those who use yoga both as a meditative and healing practice. Breath brings in a vital element to our bodies and helps us expel what we do not need. The tie to our heart further exalts it's importance. The breath revitalizes the blood as it oxygenates it after we inhale. This oxygen rich blood is needed by all of our body systems and organs for them to function properly. The heart supplies us with this oxygen rich blood as well as moving the deoxygenated blood from our organs to be re-oxygenated. Proper breathing and circulation do wonders for the physical body and can allow us to reach a state of calm (eg when you are panicking generally your breathing and heart rate are higher than normal for you and focusing on controlling and slowing these down can help induce a state of calm).
Journeying
Journeying can help us further connect to the spirits and energies around us that may not be evident on the physical plane. A journey may take one to the Lower, Middle, or Upper world (depending on the purpose of the journey) and often provides valuable insight into one's life that may have been overlooked or merely unseen. It can also be used somewhat as a form of divination. Journeying is generally done with the aid of drumming to help induce a trance-like state, however this is not always done among those who journey.
