Reiki
Just for today, I will not worry or weep.
Just for today I will be happy and joyous.
Just for today - I have everything I need
there is no want in my life, because
everything I want, I already have.
Just for today.
Just for today I will be happy and joyous.
Just for today - I have everything I need
there is no want in my life, because
everything I want, I already have.
Just for today.
History: Then & Now
Reiki is made up of two Japanese symbols that basically mean "Universal Life Energy". The basis for this name comes from it's origins of rediscovery being associated with Japan. The "original" name upon rediscovery was based upon a Dr. Mikoa Usui, whereas the term Reiki, became popularly applied to it with the spreading of this knowledge to a woman named Hawayo Takata (who was of Japanese descent but born in America, in Hawaii).
The designation rediscovery is important because Dr. Usui did not in fact originate this healing practice, but rather came across it after being challenged by some of his graduating students as to the healing of a person through spiritual means. Afterwards, he went on searching through several means to find the way and finally came across his answer in the Indian sutras. (At this point it must be said that WHICH sutra is never pointed out.) Which means that what we know as Reiki today is even older than the Indian sutras, at least.
In modern terms, Reiki is considered an energy healing. It deals with the energy centers in the body and can be used very well in conjunction with those systems. It's goal is to balance the body's energies. This ideal is based on the fact that "dis-ease" is caused by imbalance, which can honestly be backed up by modern medical research and the thinking, "all things in moderation". Therefore, often times the affects of Reiki therapy are longer lasting and most effective when given over a period of time (though the effectiveness very well depends on the level of imbalance and how rooted the ailment is within the body...ie how long they have had it.)
Principles of Reiki
The greatest thing about Reiki is that it will not hurt you. As dis-ease leaves the body some have reported some discomfort, but the means by which we remove something harmful can indeed be somewhat uncomfortable at times. The more important and perhaps bigger thing to consider is that Reiki healing is not going to merely address one's immediate concerns. Therefore if you have frequent stomach aches and you come for healing for that, but your stomach aches are caused by some intestinal disorder (imbalance) the Reiki will seek to right that problem and thereby correct the stomach aches. Another thing to consider is the inability for this energy to be misused. Neither actively nor passively can this energy be misused. Reiki will do nothing to or for someone who really does not want it, ie who does not want to be healed; and yet there is no belief needed for Reiki to help you.
Finally, there are many designations within Reiki as far as traditions. Originally the "mother" tradition is termed Usui Reiki and focuses on the traditional Japanese symbols used in attunement and healing and certain hand placements for self and others. But, as would be the case, over years of being in America and within it's diversity Reiki has indeed grown and now there are several means by which one can practice. For my purposes I work with Alchemy, Angel, Celtic, Evolutionary, Hawaiian Trinity (Aloha, Kahuna, Uhane Nui), Kundalini, Octarine, Phoenix Rising, Sacred Breath, and Sacred Moon Reikis at this point and time. These "types" of Reiki merely add other symbologies (like the healing qualities of certain energies associated with the specifics of the system...Celtic tree lore, angels, etc); but are all based upon the same “Universal Life Energy”.

What follows are some rather lengthy articles concerning Reiki and state laws. I do not claim credit for the genesis of either article and will be periodically updating them as I find they are outdated.
